14 May 2024 Primary Election Summers County Republican Executive Committee Candidate Endorsements NO RINOs ALLOWED

2024 Republican Primary Endorsements by the Summers County Republican Executive Committee

One of the biggest gripes conservatives have is that the people we elect to represent us frequently abandon the principles they espoused to get elected once they are in office. How often, in the face of impending legislation, do we hear “Call your legislator!”  Why do we need to call our legislators? Did we not elect them based on the positions and policies they espoused during the campaign? Do they need adult supervision? Sadly, the answer to that question is frequently, “Yes. They do need adult supervision.”

A new wrinkle has been added to our West Virginia electoral environment in the last decade: our state has gone deep red. This means that whoever has an “R” after their name in the general election will likely be the winner. This puts the real contest for good governance in our 14 May 2024 Primary elections. Too many liberals and Democrats not only perceive the new electoral environment, they also seek to game it by switching parties, lying to us, and claiming to be viable Republicans for the sole purpose of maintaining their power and agenda. This tactic is successful because they are well funded and are counting on inundating the electorate with dishonest ads that working people have no time to fact check.

This is why this committee has made endorsements. In accordance with the Summers County Republican Executive Committee (SCREC) Mission Statement, we are committed to voter outreach and education, and to supporting the election of constitutional conservative Republican candidates for public office locally, statewide, and nationally. Our endorsements are rare. Only when the choice is absolutely clear, and based on application of our committee’s republican principles, will we endorse one Republican over another. Such clarity is gained by a candidate’s history, but may also be based on the history of the endorsed candidate’s opponent(s). Every candidate can talk a good game, but history is always the most reliable indicator. No RINOs.

Our endorsements this 2024 primary season:

Trey Ewing WV House of Delegates, District 46

The members of the Summers County Republican Executive Committee have known Trey Ewing for years, working with him as a member of the Greenbrier County Republican Executive Committee on Republican events in several southern WV counties. We have relied on his vision, his wisdom, and seemingly unlimited energy for helping local conservative organizations succeed and advance their conservative constitutional message. He is a man who lives by President Ronald Reagan’s words, “There is no limit to the good that can be accomplished if you are not concerned about who gets the credit.” We know Trey is in this race for the benefit of West Virginians, and not himself. His conservative Christian, Republican principles are unshakeable and well known to us, and demonstrated everyday through his actions and not just words. His calm and thoughtful nature combined with a backbone of steel make him one the few people we can identify as an actual statesman. It also makes him one of the few people we can trust to represent the will of the people without adult supervision.

Reenforcing our committee’s decision to endorse Trey Ewing for the statehouse is a close look at his opponent, the incumbent Delegate Jeff Campbell, whose record includes supporting taxpayer-funded abortion and gun control. These are not Republican or West Virginia principles and policies. It is more than clear that Jeff Campbell does not support the Republican Party platform or the principles of freedom-loving West Virgina voters.

While Trey Ewing is not representing either of our districts in Summers County, we feel that he is the only candidate in the race for WV House of Delegates District 46 who will support the Republican Party platform. His presence in the WV House of Delegates will serve the people of his district and West Virgina overall better than any other candidate. Trey Ewing will be another voice and vote in the Statehouse for the cause of freedom and good governance for all West Virginians.

US Senate: Alex Mooney

A member of the US House of Representatives Freedom Caucus for the northern half of our state (US House WV-2), Alex Mooney has served well in the House with a respectable conservative voting rating of 90% according to the Heritage Foundation. (Contrast that with 72% for Congresswoman Carol Miller representing the southern part of the state in WV-1). He is strong on religious freedom, small government, 2nd Amendment rights, freedom of speech, election integrity, and a host of other issues near and dear to the hearts of freedom loving Americans.

Our committee’s decision to endorse Alex Mooney to replace Joe Manchin in the US Senate is further reenforced by his primary opponent, our current Governor, Jim Justice, whose record of governance is far less than stellar. Elected as a Democrat and then seeing the writing on the wall to switch parties, Jim Justice shut down West Virginia for COVID for nearly 3 years causing untold damage to the state economy, pushed the poison that is the experimental MRNA COVID “vaccine”, and appointed to vacancies in the state legislature people whose only resemblance to an actual Republican is the “R” after their names. Liberal Jeff Campbell’s appointment to replace conservative Mike Honaker in the WV House of Delegates district 46 is only the latest poke in the eye to West Virginia voters. Further, Jim Justice is being sued by banks for not paying his loans and his reputation for stiffing WV businesses he owes money to is legendary.

The choice is clear.  Alex Mooney has the record that proves he is on the side of the people, freedom, and constitutional limited government. Justice’s record is one of abusing power and spending other people’s money. We wholeheartedly endorse Alex Mooney for US Senate.

US House of Representatives (WV-1): Derrick Evans

Elected the WV House of Delegates in Wayne County in 2020, Derrick Evans went to the US Capital on January 6 2021 to protest the theft of the 2020 presidential election with hundreds of thousands of other patriotic Americans. After being let into the Capital Building by Capital police, committing no violence and then leaving, he was subsequently arrested and prosecuted by the corrupt DOJ and spent months in federal prison as a political prisoner.  Derrick Evans knows first-hand the effects of Democrat Deep State tyranny. He is a freedom loving American who suffered at the hands of his own corrupt government for exercising his constitutionally protected rights. Derrick Evans now seeks to bring our government back into its Constitutional limits and resecure the civil rights of all Americans as our congressman. Protecting our God-given rights starts with electing representatives that won’t support legislation that violates the US Constitution and our civil rights. It starts with electing representatives who understand in their souls that there can be no compromise with those who seek to enslave us and destroy our nation whether through selective prosecution from the FBI and DOJ, EPA regulations that destroy our way of life, or legislation and federal rules that place one type of American over another. Derrick Evans will not compromise with those who have no backbone for the contest for freedom and go along to get along.

Contrast the positions of Derrick Evans with the history of Carol Miller in the US congress with a current Heritage Foundation conservative voting score of 72. Uncontrolled and unaccountable federal spending along with supporting forced COVID “vaccinations” mark her voting record. In the latest omnibus spending bill Carol Miller voted to fund abortion, red flag gun laws, and transgender surgery for minors, among a host of other liberal foolishness with our tax dollars and to expand the already unsustainable national debt. She also voted with other RINOs and the Democrats to allow warrantless spying on American Citizens in the FISA reauthorization.

Our nation simply cannot afford to send people to congress who aren’t brave, principled conservatives. We need people who will set our country back on the right course. Accordingly, this committee wholeheartedly endorses Derrick Evans for the US Congress in WV-1.

Circuit Judge (Summers/Monroe): Kristin Cook

In the nonpartisan election for Circuit Court Judge for Summers and Monroe Counties, we looked at the records and accomplishments of the candidates and find that Kristin Cook has the necessary experience and outstanding record of success not only in the judicial arena, but also as an active contributor to the community.

As a prosecutor and specially appointed prosecutor she has practiced in all circuit and magistrate courtrooms in Monroe and Summers Counties, as well as Greenbrier, Pocahontas, Mercer, and Raleigh Counties. She has prosecuted well over 400 felony cases with a conviction rate of 95%. Over her 12 years as a prosecutor Kristin Cook has successfully prosecuted felony cases of murder, child sexual assault, armed robbery, drug offense, extortion, and misdemeanor trials of DUI, domestic violence, destruction of property and more. Unlike less diligent prosecutors, Kristin worked for justice instead of plea-bargaining everything down to meaninglessness. We expect Kristin to bring that professional knowledge, diligence, and work ethic to the job of Circuit Court Judge.

Active in her church and girls sports in southern West Virginia, Kristin was awarded the Beacon of Light award from the Child Advocacy Center and the Extra Mile Award from the WVSP Children’s Justice Task Force. She has been featured for her accomplishments in the WV Lawyer Magazine and The Concordian.

Kristin’s professional record of accomplishments and her dedication to her southern West Virginia community make her the perfect choice for Circuit Judge and this committee is proud to endorse her.

Summers County Commission: Charlie Saunders

Residents of Summers County will recognize the dramatic improvements of the last years in several areas. The county is now debt free for the first time. Active 911 has been established and the emergency communications infrastructure upgraded to provide proper coverage across the entire county, also for the first time ever. Dilapidated structures are being removed, unusable property is being made usable for the county residents, We are seeing other infrastructure improvements, particularly with technology and internet in place and ongoing. It is progress like this county has not seen before. While Charlie Saunders modestly gives great credit to his fellow Commissioners and other county officials and employees, the fact is that as County Commission President, he has listened to the county citizens, established a vision of what could be and should be for our county, and brought his own substantial leadership and financial skills to bear, leveraging the individual and collective strengths of the Summers County employees and elected officials to make that vision a reality. This committee is impressed with Charlie Saunders’ ability to establish the vision that continually improves our county and gets those charged with implementing that vision all rowing in the same direction for the good of the county. We want to see what Charlie and his team can accomplish next for Summers County.

West Virgina Attorney General: Mike Stuart

Mike Stuart brings the bona fides in his campaign for WV Attorney General and the right conservative perspectives as well as a track record for seeking justice regardless of the connections or politics of the people involved. As US attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia Mike Stuart has a stellar record protecting the rights of US citizens and successfully prosecuting cases such as waste, fraud, and abuse against West Virginia Taxpayers and interstate drug trafficking. He even successfully prosecuted a former WV Supreme Court Judge.

Mike Stuarts has a proven successful track record as a US Attorney, deep West Virgina roots, and a well-documented constitutional perspective driving his fight for individual freedom against the liberal and federal forces of tyranny. This committee is confident in endorsing Mike Stuart as the best choice for WVAG and helping keep West Virginia safe and free.

West Virgina Secretary of State: Brian Wood

Out of four GOP candidates for WV Secretary of State in this upcoming primary, only one brings to the table a record so impressive on election integrity. With nearly two decades as the County Clerk for Putnam County, Brian Wood has yet to score less than 100% on an election audit. Brian understands that the key maintaining our representative republic is election integrity. He understands the how our national 2020 and 2022 elections were stolen and will implement the transparency and auditability measures necessary to ensure WV elections remain free and fair. As secretary of State, he will not tolerate anything less than this in any West Virginia County. This committee understands that without properly and legally conducted elections, our republic cannot survive. Therefore, we are endorsing Brian Wood for WV Secretary of State, the best candidate for maintaining and improving the integrity our West Virginia’s elections.
